FinePix Z800EXR
'Artistic' Shooting Made Simple
Submitted by marchorner on Wed, 27/10/2010 - 11:25
I know most people feel more confortable shooting all of their photos in full colour and then apply manipulation after, but it can be a lot simpler than that!
A lot of FinePix cameras allow you to simulate the distinctive look of the images by specifying the 'Film Simulation Mode'
This is the same shot, taken out of my window (not exactly the most photogenic place but works as an example) taken on each of the different Film Simulation Modes on the Z800EXR.
I think you will agree that they all look very distinct!
Provia / Standard

Velvia / Vivid mode

Black and White

Hi Marc
A good tip and to tell you the truth, I know I can choose a different mode but, I tend to forget that it's there to be used.
Lest we forget.!!
Cheers

Yeah, I'm usually a little scared to go Black & White .. I've done it a couple of times whilst taking pictures of my cat and they did come out rather well, You can see them in my gallery if you want.
Ta.
The best thing about photography is it's multilingual, anyone can enjoy a good photograph.

Allow me to contradict. I have tried to learn a bit about B/W over the last weeks and would never recommend to use a camera mode B/W or Sepia.
The possible results in a freeware program like Gimp are far better. The processing inside the camera can only use one standard program and will never take care of different light situations, textures and so on.

I never use anything but the standard colour setting. I might adjust the dynamic range or the EV to take account of the lighting conditions but that's about all. This leaves me full freedom to adjust colours or convert to black and white in my photo editor.
