We saw How Many!!!!!!!!!!

I warn you in advance if you don't like Kingfishers, then you'll hate this. We popped down to the local boat ramp to see if anything was going on when we spotted a Kingfisher. I  must mention (no excuses) I was shooting into a dark area with lots of foliage, hand held on full zoom. I know lots of you would have been able to handle this situation, but given what happened you may understand my disbelief and excitement. Ummm nothing new about Kingfishers you're thinking ............. except....................

One solitary juvenile King fisher we thought.

Couldn't believe it when another one joined. Then there was 2.

Now this is getting silly - 3 at once.

How could we ask for more? Well we did and now have 4.

Man alive - we've now got 5

Giving it big licks now - We've got 6!

Just thought I'd add this one to this list. We did see 7 but I totally lost the plot by then and he flew away just as I clicked.

This little chap got fed up being crowded on the branch and went fishing.

He even brought something back to share.

And share he did - big Awwwwww

Well, I hope you enjoyed seeing this little series as I much as I did. As I said the quality let's it down, but the novelty I hope made up for it. Thanks for viewing. Chris x

By the way, I tried every setting on my camera including Automatic and each time the "yellow flashing focus warning light" came on. In the end I just kept clicking regardless. Any ideas what I can do should this warning show again. Thanks in advance.

Whoops, sorry I've duplicated the second image - well you know I'm blonde and elderly now having just celebrated a HUGE birthday. Is it possible to replace the second picture with another one or would the replacement shot default to the end of the blog?

Thanks Nigel & Leon for stopping by Smile

Oh Chris weren't you the lucky one! I think we have Kingfishers here, as they are listed in my numerous bird books, but none to be seen in our travels! I just love your photos and your commentary - they are wonderful little birds! Thanks for sharing and I hope you had a wonderful HUGE birthday!

Didn't know it was your birthday, hope you had a great day......and if you want to see the next one you'll stop taunting me and Steve with those darned Kingfishers....unless you send two return tickets for us to see them for ourselves...lol.

Brilliant Chris! What a lovely birthday surprise for you then, all those Kingfishers. You must have thought it was your Birthday and Christmas rolled in one !! LOL!!  Fantastic! Last time I saw a flash of a Kingfisher I was with Steve Ransome in Wales on the Fuji Meet. The time before that was in the 90's when I used to fish the canals and Rivers and they used to land close but I wasn't as big into photography then like I am now. Thanks for sharing. (Happy BIG Birthday to you...bet you're not as old as me at 52 next month...)   Party

Brilliant Chris! I loved your poem too as the numbers increased.

The one of the kingfisher in the mud looked like a little old man!! Don't worry about the focus thing flashing, I think it's just to warn you that you need to hold the camera steady, you seem to have overcome it anyway as they are all great!!

Thanks for sharing, and happy birthday! As for being old, rubbish your only a slip of a girl!!!

Hi Everyone, I responded to you all directly to thank you for your visits and lovely comments.I must admit I was so chuffed to see the little group all together. I was leaping around like a lunatic (nothing new) trying to catch them all before they went.

Thanks Mr Finepix too. Yes we went back on the next 2 days at the same time, but no joy. We'll have another go this weekend.

Chris, you are really very naughty. There are some of us who have never even seen a Kingfisher, never mind photographed one, me included.

Never mind, as you are a nice person you're forgiven. Top blog with rather good images.

Thanks for the e~mail Chris,I would have missed this otherwise. You really are rubbing Steve's nose in it. Great Blog and Great photos.....lucky (?) you. As for being elderly....no way....but don't worry about it 'cos life begins at 40 (when you get there !!!) it really does. So you've got something to look forward to.

Don't know about NZ this year, we travel a lot as you know but we're both a little weary of long hauls (done 3 in 12 months) and have another cruise in June. I have to do something special as its our 30th Anniversary in November...so we'll see.

Hope Jim is OK.

Super shots Chris!  A move this week has given me the chance to try and catch one myself.  There is one perching in a gum at the end of the garden and it also pops down to a gatepost, so.... the hunt is on!!  I will be pleased if I get something approaching what you have here.

A lovely collection of "family photos."  I'll bet that sharing your joy with the Fuji community ranks as a close second to being there--we all know that kingfishers are highly-sough aftert.  We do have them here as well--I've seen a couple, but haven't attempted a photograph yet.

Well-written little blog, too.  I liked.

Ho Hum, how can us mere mortals ever compete with your magnificent collection of Kingfishers ;-D  I have only ever seen them when I lived in Australia, and never had a camera handy even if I could have been fast enough to capture them.  Have added your blog to my favourites, so I can enjoy again and again ... Carol

Thanks for you kind comments on my blue tits and no need to ask if you had a wonderful birthday your blog says it all Smile
