The peak of El Torrecilla
Well thanks to ian´s photos i decided to go El Torrecilla the highest peak in Malaga south Spain, is 1919m (6000ft), 6 hour walk, about 16km, it is in the national park of Las Sierra de las Nieves near Ronda.

far right you can see the helipad and a few meters away is the car park, also the guards house and keeper of the mountain oaks, here is where the walk starts, in this photo in first line you can see the pinsapo trees they are unique to Malaga and Cadiz nowhere else in the world you can see then.

the first part of the walk as you can see was iced, also the last part of the walk (what goes up must come down, no), is 10am and still quite cold.

well here i am catching up some walkers, this was the best view so far, some areas could not see more then 25meters, very foggy.

the feeling is her or him never came back (sorry), i love this photo.

this is a Mountain Oak (quercus faginea), also quite unique i think is the only and higest forest at least in Spain, there are around 500 years old.

here there is a large group of then, if you can see then, you cant appreciate but the snow on the twigs is only on one side making a twig of only 1/2cm into 3cm wide, if you notice there is no snow on the floor that's because is a shoulder and very windy at this point and cold.

just behind the oak is the base of El Torrecilla about 1700m, there's a natural spring, here everybody stops for a rest, view the peak and get strength before the biggest effort (at this point some give up the attempt), also the sun come out or i come out into the sun to enjoy this spectacular view.

well this is a great shot i must say, i love it and i have it in my desktop, just to the right of the walkers coming down there is a peak, that's the Torrecilla.

in this photo you can appreciate the shear fall, only a few meters now and i am starting to get nervous to reach the top.

well this photo is not so great but it had to go in, hurrayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy i made it. the reason i am siting down is one the fall behind me, every time i stood up the wind will hit me in the back of my head making me feel i was falling towards the abyss, also there was not much space up there i must say.
the blog is a bit long but is worth it, at least for me, enjoy it.
Next stop--------El Mulhacen.

Superb Sacha, outstanding work. Great pictures and lovely narrative.
I must admit to have never done much serious ice climbing, but next year I'm going to try and book on a course and get some crampons and axe and get out amongst the ice.
Very jealous,
Well done

Hi Sacha,
This is a great blog very well done.
I've walked myself in this area but in summer (we stopped in a little village called El Gastor) and I know it is spectacular.
Cheers and thanks for sharing it with us.
