Macro Day!
Submitted by lisadev on Sun, 05/08/2012 - 17:16
Today I decided to take advantage of the relatively light wind and practice macro shots.

Some of these I'm happy with but some seem slightly out of focus, not sure whether that is down to my unsteady hands or the breeze!
It's a good excuse to keep practising, unfortunately insects pretty much creep me out and I spent much of the time squealing when they got fed up of me trying to get close!
Please feel free to leave both good and bad feedback and any tips gratefully received.

Hi Lisa, not a bad set of pics, macro photography isn't easy as you now know the slightest bit of movement can ruin a shot.Professionals can spend weeks in the field and take hundreds of pictures to get that one detailed colourful photo so you're not doing bad, keep it up, you'll soon get used to being around bugs..lol.

A very good first effort, Lisa - nothing to criticise about this set. The difficulty I find with macros is managing depth of field, which you have caught pretty well.
Best regards, Steve

Hello Lisa.
Yes some are out of focus and believe me, I have been there many many times. Even with the slightest breeze, the focus can be way out, particularly when working with such a short DOF. I think you have done bloomin well for a first time. I see we have a macro expert on the way. Very nice work indeed.
All the best. XXX
I did a little photoblog with a Macro lens some time ago, take a peep if you wish.:

These are brilliant considering you shot handheld. Try a tripod next time, you'll be surprised what a difference it makes.
