It does look a bit messy, but that's the way things were in the old days! This is the kind of loco that took me to school every day, for a few years - they were dirty and gritty, but smelled a lot better than their diesel replacements!

Beautiful machines, I watched the first train through the Sharpthorne tunnel after the line was rebuilt through the window of my uncles workshop when I was little and never looked back
