Sweet spots of the S9500/S9000
Dear S9500/S9000 users,
I have just received a second-hand S9500 bought from eBay for a good price. Are there any tips you can share with me for using the S9500?
Things I would like to learn from you are as follows:
(1) Which are the best focal length and aperture for taking sharp photos?
(2) What is the best resolution 9MF, 9MN, 5M etc for capturing details?
(3) What is the best sharpness setting (hard, standard, soft) for avoiding noise?
(4) What is the best metering option (Centre, Weighted or average) for accurate exposure?
(5) Do you need constant -1/3EV to avoid blown highlights?
(6) Is there any cheap and cheerful CF card you would recommend?
Any other tips and comments are welcome too!
Thanks!
Daniel

1. - Doesn't exist - every photo and every camera will be different - experiment.
2. 9 MF
3. Depends on situation but try all and see which you prefer. I tend to leave my Sony on Hard. Noise is caused by having not enough light. The camera will try to compensate for this by increasing the ISO. High Iso levels cause noise.
4. Different for different picture types. Experiment with same scene different metering and see what you like.
5. The EV is to compensate for all the light levels and should change according to the light levels.
6. For CF cards try 7dayshop or warehouse Express.

Daniel,FWIW,I found the sweet spot for the s9500 to be @ f5.6 and around 135mm(equiv).Custom white balance makes a huge difference too.I always use standard or soft setting for sharpening as i sharpen in post which lessens the instances of artifacts.Metering is something which i generally do manually, but average metering with -Ev dialled in works well on the s9500.Here is a gallery of s9500 images if you want to compare exif data : http://s74.photobucket.com/albums/i261/JoeBrush/S9500%20Gallery/?start=all
Good luck with it!
Regards Joe.
