Currently the IHC rules appear to exclude 3D pictures.
The easy answer to that is to have an IHC which doesn't, and that is exactly what I am going to do.
A 3D IHC for 3D pictures. http://www.myfinepix.co.uk/forum/1590/462937
Yes, yes I can hear you screaming "but I don't have a 3D camera", that's OK, the rules won't exclude you and what's more, you don't need a 3D camera.
Any camera is capable of taking a 3D picture.
Processing the images into 3D takes a little effort, but that really isn't an issue, not only will I provide you with a link to get the free software to make 3D images, I will also
publish a tutorial showing you exactly how to output 3D from a standard camera.
Thoughts?
The 1st challenge has now been launched, I will not take part in it and I will judge it, future challenges I will take part in.

Cheers for the mac link. Only prob is that anyone using a powermac is probably still on the Ark!

There's a way of doing it in Pixelmator, I'll just have to knuckle down and suss it out.

The Anaglph Workshop for app does it in about 3 seconds...is that cheating? It can be done on Pixelmater which is Macs PS, but its a drawn out process, do you have to do it that way, I don't want to offend the purists?
I think the knack is taking the 2 photos...like getting the distance and angle etc etc.

Right ...ok.... 3rd attempt.... I know it's not brilliant subject matter (out of bedroom window) but it seems to work, I think.

Just had quick look at this interesting thread. The knife but especially the ferns work really well. Great shots. I remember doing this for the IHC MAN some time ago just winging it using PS and GIMP and a normal camera.

If i can do it, any one can.
I'm guessing the dedicated 3D cameras are the answer to moving shots.

No - when we did this as a challenge in the IHCMAN there was a couple of folk who managed superb 'moving' 3D images with an ordinary camera. One was Stuart Dunlop who had his dog going round in circles - the other was Howard Walker who managed several amazing images rotating.

We recently bought a new printer which does this. I'd be hapy to post pictures but not in another IHC. Why don't you open this thread in the "Taking Pictures" Forum where there are weekly galleries but no judging and competition.
Spread a little happiness.

That last doesn't look 3D to me.
Anne - a printer that provides 3D pictures - WOW - that sounds amazing. Bet the grandkids love it.

Yeah, I get that it's just that I've seen others else where say that it's not 3D, where as I think this is the most 3d you can get with out glasses, true depth

Anne`s idea of a gallery in the Taking Pictures Forum rather than a challenge in the UK Forum sounds good to me, Steve... Particularly as you may get more entries as people from other countries can join in easily
Here`s a shot I took of the garden today ... think maybe the distance between the 2 shots wasn`t far enough though

I think this is the one Angie remembers ...
.... No photography involved, done with PhotoFiltre Studio and Panopticon Lens ProIII plug-in, Shuttle model courtesy of NASA.
I also tried creating 3D images from a single photo, (again courtesy of NASA) this was the best I managed ...
I know Stuart's were photographic but can't quite recall how he did them. Was it with a Lazy Susan or am I getting confused with a 'Stop Motion' type task?

That's them Howard - I had a feeling it was 'space' stuff. I have no idea how Stuart did his but they worked really well.

I am always intrigued by trying out something new and used to see some of these pictures being entered in the 'Out of Bounds' section on Flickr. I could never really see them properly, so I have myself a couple of pairs of cheapo glasses on order and who knows once I have had a better look at some of the pictures I may have a go at doing some myself as it does look quite interesting.

Yes, well done Ady. I do like the ferns though. What happens now Steve? I've been practicing. You really need something in the foreground don't you to really get the effect?

My coloured specs arrived today courtesy of Amazon UK via California and made in China, (for some inexplicable reason) so I have been trying them out and with the right pictures the effects are brill. I recon that the fern picture is a great start as are all the others, glad that I purchased two pairs as my grand-kids will no doubt be hogging the PC over the weekend. So now its off to study the technique, read all the tutorials and to come back on here with some mind blowing pictures .......... maybe one of that pig that just flew past.

Just been out in the garden having a play around, I took a few variations of different things, but I was most pleased about this one which was actually the first two pictures and my very first attempt with the software, what do you think?

You mean the pot with the green foliage at the bottom left? remember it was only a quick practice shot outside and I was not really trying to set up anything specific or composed, to be honest I was amazed that it even worked first time, how lucky is that? I did not even know what I was doing, so I set up my tripod at about 1.8 to 2.0 metres away from the bush and fired off two shots with around 80 mm of left to right travel between them, I did take some care to make sure that the camera was level though. What sort of distance would a close up shot require? does this decrease with the closeness to the subject or should it remain constant?
