Adjusting Contrast

Hi y'all.  Can anyone recommend a free programme to adjust contrast ( I'm specifically need it to alter some b+w conversions) picassa's isnt good enough and the Gimp may have it but I dont like using it. Any suggestions please?

Hello Martin

Try this,  brilliant and it's free.

Best of luck and let me know how you get one.

Cheers

Thanks Steve, downloaded that and it seems to have done the trick. One thing though - the adjusted image on photofiltre when saved seems to have lost a tiny amount of detail - is that normal?

I usually use the 'Studio' version but I do have the freebie.

When you 'Save' or 'Save As' JPEGs you should get a splash-screen asking the amount of compression, I think the default is 90% try setting it to 100%.

It's not the change in contrast itself that's causing the problem though?

If you could post 'Before' and 'After' images it might help identify the problem.

ARGGHHH! Getting a little peeved now. Ive got the image I want now in Picassa, but when I save it to disc it reverts to a previous stage in editing.

Hello Martin

Before closing down the shot, do you give it another name.  Photo-2 for instance.  You will then find it keeps your original but does save the newer version.  As for the detail, if you go to preferences in the tool bar, I am sure you can change it to save FULL detail.

Cheers.

Sorry steve I'm talking about picasa now, not saving the edited file for some reason.

TAo2 - Yep I click on that and it reverts to before the last edit. I cannot save the final edited version. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that the photo was edited in photofiltre and then picassa?

dc - Tried that, the copy does not save the final edit  either.

Haven't used Photofiltre but there may be a setting which ye must click on (like the blue file in Picasa)tae save the altered file into " My Pictures? Picasa will then pick it up and do an update next time ye open Picasa.

Alternatively, ye may have tae add photofiltre as a "watched" folder in Picasa...."Tools" - "Folder Manager". Which'll then update files automatically on opening Picasa.

Ah've been running a trial of Zoner photo studio and have had no problems with image edited files transferring into Picasa, although Zoner does integrate into Windows.
