Large ( 16 ) or ( 8 ) pix ?
Submitted by Mamarazzi_73 on Sat, 11/08/2012 - 07:45
Hi!! I have a finepix hs20 exr and i wonder one thing. When i set my camera in Large photos (16) it looks like the pictures are bend in the ends... But they are very clear and beautiful. When i have the settings in Medium ( 8 )the pictures look "normal" Does anyone know why? Do i have the wrong settings in my camera or what? My computer has crashed so i only have a ipad, and there is where i look at my pictures to. And thats why i cant share any pictures here anymore, it doesn't work to upload with the ipad :( I really hope someone can help me.

The 8mp image is derived from the same sensor information as the 16mp image. In good lighting conditions the 16mp image is capable of showing more detail than the 8mp simply on account of its size. In poor lighting the conditions the 8mp image will tend to disguise the amount of noise in the image simply due to the merging of pixel information.
If both images are reduced to a smaller size, say 1024 x768 pixels, they should look identical.
I'm not sure what you mean by "bends in the end". If you mean the image shows lens distortion in the sense of barrel or pincushion distortion, this is not abnormal at the wide angle or telephoto end of a zoom but is usually correctable in a decent photo editor. If this distortion is not evident at the 8mp size, I suspect that you must be comparing images taken at different zoom settings.
