We have all been disturbed, disrupted, discomforted, and distraught recently because of the 'Site Maintenance' and thoughts that My Finepix might be at an end. It has helped many folk to become better photographers - me amongst them (even tho I had to say it myself!!). The site is unique and as many have said it is the folk who offer their help and advice on photography, their sympathy and understanding in times of trouble, they share your joys and your sorrows. They are glad for your successes and help out when there are failures.

Please note that this week's MEG IS NOT the usual format - just a warning not to have your fingers on the trigger waiting for the off - you will have to do some thinking about this!!!!

For normal shooting, I set the zoom at 50mm (35 mm equiv) 50 mm closley matches the focal length of the human eye and gives less perspective distortion. Prior to digital cameras, most good 35mm cameras came with a 50 mm lense. The manufacturers knew this.

Who decided that a bokeh makes for an artistic image I wonder? Is it really artistic or simply a modern trendy fad - used to excess in particular by sports photographers?

I have been trying to take pictures of my 3 boys. Everyone that I have taken indoors seems to be grainey when I print it. But seems to look ok on the camera screen. Any suggestions? I am new to this but love capturing my boys!

was trying out my xs1 today and discover a blue halo at the center of the frame when shot skyward at some trees. seems to be occurring only at certain focal length [80-105 35mm equiv] also, seems to be better when aperture set to a smaller f number. What could be wrong?at f7.1

I have to say I'm impressed with the technical quality of the X-S1.  More or less full zoom at 1/80th, quite difficult lighting, and through the glass of a window too.  I've also put the original in my gallery before cropping and a little bit of processing.

Hi,    Just getting into photography and want to get reasonable indoor sports shots (Taekwondo events). I have an HS20 EXR camera and understand that it is not probably the best camera for indoor sports events, but would like to get the most out of this camera as possible (Budget won't stretch to a full DSLR). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Below is a couple of pics taken at a recent event, although the 'action' is caught the quality is very noisy. The settings used were:

Hi all,Just a quickie i recently bought a star 6 filter for my HS30 EXR but i'am not getting the results i hoped for i can't seem to get the light to travel down the etched lines of the filter.I dont know if there is some type of focusing tech i''am unaware of i will admit i didn't pay a fortune for the filter are there more expensive filters with slightly deeper lines available.

<p>Hi guys and girls, I'm new here but desperate for some help. I've been inspired by some photo's that I've seen in magazines and online where the clouds or water on a river is blurred by using long exposures. I get the idea, but I can't get it to work.&nbsp; My first scenario is this, I set the mode to M, set the shutter to 30" and the apperture to F11.

Hey guys!I have a HS30 Exr, and I LOVE pictures using a shallow depth of field so the background is blurred. It took ages to decide to get this bridge - I originally wanted  a dslr - but I have it now, and I really want to use shallow depth of field in my photographs - but I'm unsure how to do - but its hard to find the infomation for a bridge camera.

I get the idea, but I can't get it to work.  My first scenario is this, I set the mode to M, set the shutter to 30" and the apperture to F11. This still comes out way too exposed.I set the mode to S which allows me to set a maximum shutter of 4 seconds, I reduce the exposure down, but this still comes out more exposed when I take the photo.
