Rainbow Bridge
This is a poem for people who have lost pets, I have just lost my dog of 14 years. I found this on the internet and think it is lovely, I hope this can bring some comfort to others in my position. Sorry if it upsets some of you but its beautiful.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Dang man! I'm on Facebook (after years of resisting) and a good mate of mine put up a post re Rainbow Bridge/deceased pets (Not sure if this link works if you're not on FB )only today. Truly sorry to read of your loss. It's a slice of our personal history gone when they move on. Get another one! A pup and do it again. It's worth it. Sorry if i've babbled on a bit here...
Oh yeah. And take photos...

Sorry for your loss. Yes, I agree with Crowley - get another one very soon. It's not disloyal to your loved pet, and will once again enhance your life.

Craig, so sorry to hear about your loss of your beloved dog but I'm glad you found comfort in the Rainbow Bridge poem. I think this is lovely too. It is called 'Weep Not for Me....In Memory of a Beloved Cat' but I think it applies to all of the furry companions who have left us. I hope in time you will be able to look back on all your happy memories and smile.
Weep not for me though I am gone into that gentle night.
Grieve if you will, but not for long upon my soul's sweet flight.
I am at peace, my souls at rest.
There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed.
For all those many years.
There is no pain, I suffer not,
The fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts,
In your memory I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath
Remember not the strife.
Please do not dwell upon my death,
But celebrate my life.

Hi Craig sorry to read about your dog, been there a few times and every time I said never again. 14 years is a good age for a dog thats 98 years in human terms, what was he? Oh and my dog that I said never again is now 7 years old, good luck with your next dog, cos I am sure you will

Hi, Craig, you have my sympathy. I have been where you are a few times, and eventually the pain does ease.
