Hi All
Took this shot at Pensthorpe Norfolk and not sure what it is. Can anyone identify it?

Its definately a fly but I was attracted by the colours and markings.

You're welcome Phil.
Not boring at all. From what I've read and the photos I've looked at, these flies have wonderful iridescent eyes, perfect for macro shots. Saying that, the females appear to be bloodsuckers of horses and humans!

LOL......I was expecting a reply along those lines.
A few Summers back I was bitten by a horsefly whilst at the local nature reserve doing some macro photograpy. They are punchy little devils and I was literally dive bombed! Very painful I can tell you.

I sympathise Angela, I've had a few horse fly bites in my time and I get a nasty adverse reaction. Little blighters!

Sounds nasty Fred. I find it amazing how something so small can inflict so much pain!
I once climbed on top of a Tor to take some photos of the surrounding landscape. Was only up there for a few minutes yet when I came down it looked like I had the plague.....all thanks to millions of midges! The bizarre thing was they didn't touch my hubby! The rash took a week or so to go down and I had to get anti histamines. Not a good look!
I wonder what other 'battle scars' members have obtained in the name of photography?!
