Camera used for Competition entry
Submitted by Chrissie Barrow on Sat, 01/05/2010 - 21:16
Are Fuji accepting photos taken with non-Fuji cameras for the competition now, as I've noticed quite a few entries - 2 on Home page - that don't give the camera model, so assume they've been taken with a non-fuji camera? I know Photoshop can strip the exif but I assumed Fuji have some way of knowing the photo is taken with one of their cameras.

You have always been able to enter with a non Fuji camera - but as always - you will not win - only Fuji cameras win.

Angie is Right If You Read The Rules Anyone Can Enter But must Have Taken the Shot With a Fuji camera To Be able to Be Judged for Winning

So does no metadata/exif info equal 'non-finepix' camera?
I only own finepix, CS2 used to keep the exif intact but for some reason it no longer does and all attempts to rectify that have failed.

use 'save as' and it should retain the exif

It doesn't, unfortunately.

Fuji film allows pictures to be entered into the competition on the understanding that they have been captured using a Fine Pix camera, they are the property of the photographer and that the photographer is entitled to use them. Fuji film accepts no liability whatsoever for images uploaded so not taken by a fuji finepix camera Carnot be entered

You can enter images from anywhere you like even a scan, but if you make Fujis shortlist and they can't read the exif, they will ask for the original image. (two times winner)

Thats an excerpt from the rules, it says it must be captured using a finepix camera

Tell them that if it was a winner, see what happens but thats what the rules page says

That's not my point, you can (ie you are able to) enter with any image you just can't win with any image, otherwise it goes without saying I would have won last month.

I think the problem lies in the word 'Enter'. An image taken with a non Fuji camera may be placed into the competition pages for folk to view, but it isn't entered into the competition because it doesn't conform to the rules. These photos are left in the competition gallery for interest, photos which were stolen from someone and Fuji realise or are told are removed.

Just noticed no exif on my entry taken using Finepix S100fs. It all depends on software used to compress the image. I usually export images using the export optimiser to bring the image down to 100kb. This strips all spurious data including exif. Although not always. Never had a digital camera other than Fuji and have noticed sometimes the exif gets picked up and other times it doesn't. So a Fuji entered image may have or may not have exif data.

I use "Fast Image Resizer" (Free download) to reduce my images, you can specify the reduced size and also have the option to save or remove the Exif. Google it.

When I used PaintShop Pro 7 to edit/resize the exif data was always stripped. PSP X2 allows the exif data to be saved, even after editing. The only time it strips it is when you do an HDR merge, obviously.

erm .well i don't know how true it was .but the winning entry by one of the members .so someone said .but i`m not sure if it was a wind up.was taken by a Nikon .that's what someone said when the winners was put onto the forum .i`m not saying it was a Nikon .i`m just stating what someone put onto the forum .in my opinion.it does not bother me if it is .or not taken with a Fuji camera .but that's my opinion .and the taker of the picture is one of my favorite photographer on the Fuji site .i just thought i`d put my opinion about what was said at the time .only the person that took the photo , could anser weather or weather not it was a Fuji camera .

Surely with so many entries that they should be limited to those taken with a Fuji camera - otherwise what is the point in a Fuji site.. When I first joined I thought this was for Fuji ownnes given that there are many other sites for other makes and all makes.
(I know I'm going to be lynched for this but hey I did not use capitals)

weeeeeell .lol.Carrie.i understand what you are saying .Fuji is unique with its competition as far as i`m aware .but i also look at the competition as a photo competition .and not a camera one .i think it would be good if we could use which ever camera we could .as it would give us a view from all angles .and see what camera can gain what others cant .then Fuji could work on that i suppose .but if its got to be a Fuji .than so be it .i admit .when i came onto Fuji .i thought these cheaper cameras were just that .but i have since been very surprised by some of the quality they can produce .when used properly .and that in its own makes me wonder .what a 20 grand camera as better .also it gives people that cant get all these expensive camera.and love photography .like many do .but it doesn't cost a arm and a leg to produce it . so that's many thanks to Fuji for this .and as for the new hs10 .this one is really starting to impress me a lot .even the auto made works well .or so i`v seen .i will be getting one very soon i suspect .ho .and the comunity on here .is super .

Aaaah would that be Noels 'manipulated' jumper on the beach. Haha.
I remember that debate quite well. Yet another case of sour grapes, similar to when Jen won a prize and the cries of 'clique' came about.
Some people eh?
Regarding Noel, only 3 days to go until we see how he got on in his quest for a big shoot. Fingers are crossed.

Cheers James, and no I am not offended
I told Noel that his joke was a bad idea back then
Gee, it was further back than the jumping shot, it was back for a love theme valentines type about two years ago I think 0=o
Lots of kick off as I remember.
Noel said thank you by the way
