I own many Fuji Cameras..God knows why..
The site first of all should be re-named Their FinePix..None of my Fuji cameras could ever produce a picture comparable to the majority of those continually on the scroller. Sadly it seems some members need to be on there,so much so.They must lead a very sad life.Canvassing votes in every competition.I like pictures taken with any camera. My preference just happens to be Fuji.I paid alot of money a couple of weeks ago for a Fuji S5 pro (1,4000) actuations.I'm confronted with a tin of Spam and many fake pictures ie.Photo Shop..HDR..etc,etc.If this is what Fuji is all about then mine are going up for sale...I'm on holiday from tomorrow untill the 9th September,if it's still the same on here when I return. My collection will be sold..Thats a promise, not a threat..I see so many fine pictures on here.I don't want to go.I want to feel privilieged to be a part of this Forum...Sincerere apologises to any member who was offended by the things I have said. That was not my intention...Best wishes to all..Mick

Seems a drastic step to sell your Fuji cameras because you don't like what people put on the site.
And there are many threads about manipulating pictures and what people think - just do a search.
I think you will find many pictures in the scroller are taken with Fuji cameras, and with a S5 I don't see why you shouldn't be able to take pictures equally as good if not better, with what is in efect a Nikon, using Nikon fit lenses.
It would be a shame if you left so why not try to live with th way things are, just take part with what you have and enjoy it.
Otherwise, goodbye and good luck with whatever cameras you decide to use and sites you decide to frequent.

It does everyone good to have a rant sometimes! I'm not quite sure what your exact point was, though. In defence of the tin of spam, that was a clever and humourous shot (current at the time) to illustrate what was a very annoying influx of "spamming" on the site. I shall now read your post through again (third time) to see quite where your angst lies...
P.S. I'm not keen on canvassing comments either, but I think it stems from frustration because there are so many images flooding on and disappearing into oblivion.

If you're a regular contributor, you'll know that the amount of comments or likes have no bearing on the competition results as the images are judged at the finepix offices.
As for photoshop/HDR, wake up to the digital age, post-processing is a big part of photography these days and when done well is an art in itself, so much so that Finepix allows modified images in the competitions, but will reject an image if it appears to have little or no photographic content. In fact, last month's winning image had been HDR'd but was actually praised because it had been done in a way that added to the shot rather than detracted from it.
Still, if you're intent on selling the S5 Pro I'm sure there are many members that would help you part with it.....it's a suberb bit of kit!
P.S. The one competition I won (last year) was with an image taken with Fuji's basic bridge, the lowly S1600..

I'm sure your cameras will be snapped up when you offer them for sale !
For somebody who states they want to feel privileged by being a part of the forum it's strange that your first venture into it (as far as your profile shows) is to say Goodbye ....most folk usually say Hello first before making the decision to leave !
Perhaps after your R&R you'll find yourself in a better humour and more able to join in with the fun in some way....there must surely be some small part of the site which interests you !
Don't be too fixated on the Scroller...it may be a boost to the ego to have one of your images on there but the more active you are in the forums then the more likely you are to join the 'regular attenders' in having an image appear....it's not always quality which gets them there but more often the amount of attention they get from other members although some outstanding images do pop up on their own merit.
Cheers Stuart

Your post seems very contradictory Mike. I apologise if my Spam photo offended your sensibilities, it was not supposed to be a masterpiece, but a comment on the invasion of spammers, a humourous aside, which seemed to appeal to some people. I see your gallery is devoid of photos, so I cannot comment on your talent, or lack of it. Most people on here love taking photos, they try to improve their standards and are generously helped by other members. If you enjoy some of the photos on here, why not give them a "like" and a helpful comment, that's what it is all about, a community, sharing knowledge and helping others. A privilege to be a member, enjoy!

Hello Mike
No-one is offended at all with your rant. We have all done the same from time to time. I am confused as to what you are getting at though. You say you paid a lot of money for your gear with no response, well the saying "A bad workman always blames his tools" comes to mind. The tin of Spam shot was relevant at the time as the site was being hit by a spammer and was totally in tune as to the feelings of members of this site. Had you been "in tune" as we are, you would have got the relevance of that particular shot. No offence has been taken by anyone but before you go off on one again, just do a bit more homework.
Cheers to you too and no offence is intended whatsoever. Stay close
Steve

Hello Mike
I read your post and I,am sorry you feel a bit disalutioed with the site.We have all stamped our feet and jumped up and down at some time with issues on the site, but we got over it.Forget the scroller it is only a small part of the site.We may not all have expensive camera,s but that do,snt matter either.I have learned more by looking and trying since I joined this site. There are lots of members that are only to willing to help you if you ask.Nothing would induce me to sell my cameras,I love taken photographs and is,nt that what it is all about .So start having fun life,s to short.

Hello Michael, thanks for your comments. As was said in another comment we all have stamped our feet etc regarding this site. I also am appalled at the use of enhancements to photos. WHY! do we have to belong to the 'in crowd' who have joined the cheats who digitally alter their photos. I for one will not be doing it...I like the pics I take and couldn't give a toss aboutr the scroller lot. So it may be us and them....

Hi Mick,
what price are you looking for for the S5? What lenses do come with it?
I own a Fuji bridge and did have already 2 or 3 photos on the scroller. As i have learned enough in the meantime with my bridge camera it seems to be time to upgrade and i have seen lots of photos from S5 users which look times better than most material out of newer cameras..
Reply to comment
well i dont do enhancements...other that the crop thing, and i have had nothing but encourgemant on my un enhanced photographs, and i am not part of any 'in crowd'. just because i dont like hdr or other fancy things does not give me the right to call it cheating, nor does it you janusmw...each to his own and all that .....again!....if you don't give a toss why not go else where...simple.

The one and only pic I ever had that made the scroller, was taken on a fuji camera and, apart from a little cropping, had no post processing. Go figure.
Reply to comment
Oooooh...where have I heard that before... ?
........ but your camera will digitally alter your images itself anyway and post processing is the only way to undo that interference and get things to look the way you actually saw and remember them !
It's nothing new and not something which has only come along with digital imaging...no doubt the old film processing folks will drop in shortly to tell you the truth ...or alternatively...you could just look at some of the old threads on the subject.
Main thing is ....do what you want to do and enjoy it.... and enjoy what others do with their processing (Not Cheating !)
Cheers Stuart

If you don't like processing, why not just use a pin hole camera and light sensitive paper?

part of the appeal of this site to me is the help and advice others are prepared to offer. All the cameras i have bought have been fuji
1. because i wanted to be a part of this site
2. people here most of the time are friendly and helpful.
as for the scroller if people think they have a good shot and wanna shout about it with the aim of getting on the scroller thats fine with me. It a good way of seeing some of thebest shots on the site as well.
only been on the scroller once for those who missed my moment of glory here is the link

Don't really understand your point. The best thing about this site is the huge variation of images and the different ways of getting them, we don't have to like them all. In the same way your camera does not know what you want to achieve nor does editing software, it seems to me to take a lot of skill/patience/knowledge to use it effectively, I wish I could.

Hope you have a good holiday. Don't worry about the scroller, or what's been photoshopped or not. Just get out, enjoy your photography and if you have something to share or contribute, show it here. We all like a pat on the back every now and then and a "yeah, that IS a good pic", but that's not what this community is all about. It's about pooling knowledge, helping others and the occassional bask in glory. It's never meant to stress anyone out.

Sorry but I'm going to give you the pantomime answer:
OOOOOOOOOOh yes they could!!!
Seriously the S5 is a superb camera. If you can't get a decent pic with that machine then it won't be the fault of the camera. If you like landscape then have a peek at Joe Brush's gallery (he uses an S3 which is an earlier camera).
The scroller is just a small part of the site. Some folks make a big deal out of it, but it's not the be-all and end-all. Popularity and quality are not necessarily the same thing (think Jedward for example)....
Enjoy your photography and learn to use your Fuji cameras to their full potential - this takes time and effort but it's worth it. When you have progressed to the point where you can 'see the wood for the trees' you will stop calling people cheats just because they have embraced the craft of digital photography (which includes post-processing just as film photography did).
If you find yourself becoming obsessed with the scroller just remember the old Morecambe & Wise joke:
My lord have you got the scrolls?.....
Nah - I always walk like this.....

I have a dream that one day this site will rise up and live out the true meaning of its existence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all photographers are created equal."
I have a dream that one day on the forums of FinePix the sons of former members and the sons of former Fuji owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even the site of MyFinePix, in this state of turmoil, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of communicativeness and photography.
I have a dream that my descendants will one day be members of a site where they will not be judged by the colour of their photographs, not by the canvassing of their images. Not by the bigotry of HDR or the worshiping of false comments.
Gawd I must leave the gherkins off the pickled onion sarnies at night.
