Free Watermarking Software
I'm seriously thinking of applying a watermark to all my photos I have on Flickr and would like a recommendation for some easy to use free software to achieve this.
Any suggestions? ( Dont suggest Paint or Gimp I wont use them)
I am in the process of venturing into the realms of Facebook to promote the prints I sell, I understand Facebook and Flickr can be linked and as it would appear you are more likely to get photos "stolen" from Facebook, I thought this would be a good idea.
Yes! I am aware the only way to be safe is not to upload anything to tinternet, but these are low res uploads in any case, and you have to have a medium to showcase your work. Facebook has the unique ability to promote a buisness seemily faster than anything else at the moment, and is an opportunity not to be missed.

what software do you use now to do any cropping and such?
doesnt that have an option to add a semi transparent layer with a watermark?
or if you use Windows then windows paint will let you add transparent text to photos.

When you say 'watermarked' exactly what do you want? I ask as it is possible in Photoshop to make a brush which you can then add to all your images. The brush can be your signature and can be as large or small as you wish. Or as I have done here just make a 'sign' of your name. I have overdone this just to show you. It takes just a minute or two to make the brush.

I just discovered that my Photoscape software does watermarking...and I can have whatever I want...wherever on the photo I want too..the freebie I posted above only lets me put it in a half dozen particular places.....so will be using the Photoscape from now on.....check your own software...it maybe does it too.

You can add your text wherever you like on Picasa, and choose the opacity, angle, colour, text style & size

I think that quite a lot of software - certainly you can in Photoshop - allow you to add details to the exif - like the Author etc. I believe that this can then be hidden so that it would not be possible for someone to alter it. But Mike would probably know more about this than I do.

I use Alamoon. It's free but if you want to mark several photos at once there is a charge. I tend to do one at a time.

Have a look at FastStone, it can do it very easy and as a batch operation as well, which is nice.
Freeware, good photo viewer and a bit more than basic photo editing tool.

Angie, your example above ( the bottom one of the three) is the sort of thing I'm after.

There are thousands of ways of putting text to pictures and blending as required.
I would make a transparent png files then import and place where needed as textural png can be re-sized without too much bother.
By adding a complex frame and placing the logo / trade mark / copyright symbol in an awkward place any cropping of the image would look odd.
Without a frame and placed badly the copyright /name etc could easily be cropped out.
You can make them as subtle or not to taste by using different blend methods.
You can even make it an action to be done in a batch edit depending on the program.
You can get the © by having the num-lock button on and pressing the left alt key while typing 0169 then releasing the key . You can then re-size that for your copyright mark if you feel it needs that too.
There is a whole list of symbols and how to get them here.

Just as an addition to this - Facebook is changing (so I gather) and it will be compulsory for everyone who is a member to have a timeline - which means that everything you have ever posted will be available on that timeline - way back to when you first joined and any photos etc. of you as a baby etc will be included in the timeline. Good or bad idea, whether you want to or not - it will be there. So might be worth thinking about the Google Social networking site.
EDIT
If you wish to make a brush, if you have Photoshop Elements, send me your email address via the Contact button and what you want and I'll explain it for you - although there are tutorials on the net. All three are the same - it is just the size that I have changed. You can also change the colour to match the part of the photo it is to go on - so if it is green grass you can make it green - not so easy then to clone out.

Hi Angie.
You will have seven days to sort out the privacy settings on a face-book account but some of it may still turn up on other peoples time lines.
It was some of those privacy settings that gave me the problems on flickr .
The main one was you have to opt out of letting other people publishing your material without your consent which you have to opt out of manually as they are opted in by default .

Yes re Facebook I understand this timeline buisness isnt very popular. However since I've never been a member before, those issues wont affect me. It just seems more and more buisnesses large and ( in my case very) small lol! are using Facebook to promote thier products. Its just like having a website in the late 90's some thought it was a waste of time, now if you havent you wont survive.

Hi
I had a web site at that time and it still takes more than a web site to sell anything photographic. you have to work at it in all directions including the technical side.
There are too many millions who expect sales to fall into their lap. There is nothing wrong with using Facebook business pages to promote a business but it can only be part of a marketing strategy.
Kind regards,
Chas.

Yes Chas you are right. I really meant brand leaders wont survive without offering an online presence of some kind. It is totally different trying to sell photographic work via the web and I would never consider doing so exclusively. However it ( Facebook) is a very useful tool to promote your business in terms of where you will be exhibiting/selling, the type of work you produce, the new work you have to show off etc etc. This will be my third year of selling prints, last year sales increased 300% on the first year, so with a Facebook presence on top of everything else who knows what the year holds. For example a colleague of mine is organising a charity event in April (Craft Fair), for a raffle I have donated a framed print which will be a main prize, another donation has come from Pembrokeshies top tourist attraction ( free family tickets) there is already a post on that Facebook page concerning the event, so without any effort from me potentially loads of people can already get a link to my page. I think the term is "going viral" lol! Anyway its all just a bit of fun. Having been in "sales" most of my life there is always something new to learn.
