Ripley is a close family name and I am curious about the history of the Ripley surname. I know it is pretty ancient. Other than my grandparents and my Uncle and cousin I have never known another Ripley. As far as I know the name is connected with Britain.PS...they came here through Nova Scotia. :)

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the samehospital room....One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for anhour each afternoon to help drain the fluid fromhis lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat onhis back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, theirhomes, their jobs, their involvement in themilitary service, where they had been onvacation..

I've not seen Rosie's cheery avatar for quite a while, now.  I know she was in hospital a few weeks ago, anyone know how she's doing?

... the news item about the 39 years old lady who had been deaf all her life? After having implants in her ears she can, for the first time, hear. Her mother filmed the nurse telling the lady the days of the week and it was then that my tears started. It has got to be one of the most humbling and heartwarming storie for a long time. If you haven't seen it, I think it is on you tube, then take a look. You won't be dissapointed.Jan.

On strict instructions from Alison and a lot of badgering from her to blog so here goes my first ever photoblog. As you know I am Alison Bruce-Stone’s better half known as Geoff Bruce. My screen name is Sherpa. Aptly named by one of Alison’s good friends because I carry Alison’s camera gear on photo shoots.  I have now acquired my own Fuji S4900 bridge camera as well as the Fuji L55 pocket camera.

Some of you may have seen on the news that children as young as 6 years old are able to access explicite pornography on the internet.  Although parents may have a "lock/password" on the home PC, it is apparently readily available on smartphone, tablets etc.

Just installed and tested yet another free image editor, Lightzone, supports RAW/JPEG, it is non-destructive, versions available for Mac/Linux/Windows, you have to register to download the software, a nice review here, previously commercial the software is now free and open source, due to this the documentation is good and you will find a lot of YoutTube tutorials, worth a try perhaps (I will keep it but continue with Darktable), download here. Mike

Hi Uwe. Thanks for your comments. I agree about the background and was trying to do something about it this afternoon by the internet tutorials for the camera. The FZ 200 is never going to replace my Canon 650D. It is meant as a standby so that when I get out on by bicycle, I can easily put in a lightweight backpack. The camera itself has very little weight unlike the 650D.Jan.

I reported them but soon ran out of reports. I did my best to bury them. There were two tonight.

Set amidst the most spectacular lake and mountain scenery Keswick has attracted visitors for hundreds of years. A long weekend, 21-23 March 2014 was the venue for the fine folk of Fuji Finepix for fun and photography.

Yahoo went ahead ignoring protests with their beta version last night. It works as a gallery but the groups are virtually impossible to administrate. So regretfully it looks like the end of the road for many, including my group 'Ring of Excellence'. I put a lot of work into it over the years all for soddin' nowt. Sod you Yahoo.

I have just noticed that a couple of users (completely inoffensive and blameless) are coming up on my screen as 'on my ignore list'.  I'm certain I've never put them there, even by accident.  Is there any way it can be undone?RegardsSteve
