Hi from Paul in North Devon

Hi everyone, just a quick hello before going to bed, it rather later over here!

I have recently bought a HS20EXR and being a complete novice with a camera especially a bridge (normally a simply point and shot) I certainly have a lot to learn!

I know I have to start learning about ISO's, Shutter Speeds and Aperture Settings so any help will be greatly welcome, or if any one knows of any free tutorials on the internet as well.

I look forward to posting my photo's on here as soon as I can take one without the auto settings, I want to be able to do things manually and have full control over the photo's.

I am an artist so need to take my own detailed photo's so I can paint from then, but hey, one step at a time, you certainly cannot run before you are able to walk!

So now to try and navigate the forum.... Smile

Paul

Here is a Goldfinch I managed to photograph recently......

Hi Paul - You certainly don't appear to be having any problems so far.

It's a very good start. Great clear shot.

I've an HS20 and learning the ropes too, I think it's trial and error and lots of practice.

Hi and welcome to the site.
There are 1000s of tutorials and websites but this one is a good place to start -

http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/learn-photography-concepts.htm

I'd also recommend you join in the daily and weekly IHC challenges, they are a great way to stretch yourself and learn about your camera. Having a theme gives you something to aim for instead of just trying stuff at random.

Thank you everyone, we are off to spend a day with a bird ringer today so hopefully I should b able to get some nice shots (fingers crossed). There is so much to learn but taking it slow and steady to me is the key and to not overload yourself with settings and information.

Cheers,

Paul
