Camera Testing

Ooh...Gladys and Fred have asked me to test a Fuji HS30 EXR.  I shall look forward to that arriving and giving it a good look at.  It's coming on 10th Sept and they want it back by 1st Oct. 2012.

I just hope I can justify their trust in me doing a good test.

Cheers and have a great weekend.

Have a great week end yourself matey.

My camera is great but the lens creep / droop is very annoying, I'm giving a bit longer because I'm of to Germany soon but after that it may be going back.

Fuji need to address this !

ps If Fred is looking in........  your response would be appreciated.

That's one great news because i've always been wondering if a bridge camera could really deliver shots like those in your galleries (you know ...... those that require the swivelling of your knees). i shall be looking forward to the results! But i think 3 weeks might be a little too short for the test. Hope that can be extended. Smile

Should be interesting to see the images Steve.

My HS10 is acting up again so I haven't been using it much lately.  I'm thinking it may be time for a new "grab and go" camera.

Hiyah

Bryan 3 weeks is a short period of time and we are in mainland Spain for 8 days during that period too.  I won't be taking the Fuji coz of the insurance considerations.  I am determined to give it a good go though, hips swivelling and the like!!!  My report will not be posted here (under instructions)  I will however,  post some images in the forums or in the form of a little photoblog.  I will not be posting any comment or views though.  So Laurie, you will see some images for sure.  As for 3D Stuart.....mmmmm, I will have to look at that aspect.  As Paul has said, it's going to be fun (serious) to try out a new bit of Fuji kit.  One thing for sure, I am not going to bore everyone with bird shots.  I think folk have seen enough of that from me.

Thanks all for your good wishes.....watch this sapce.  Ta. X

Hi Steve,

it will be an interesting test, especially as you have the direct comparison with the S200 and a DSLR system.

No bird photos? I will believe it when i see it Wink

Nice one Steve.  Look forward to seeing what you think of it.  My son has a HS30, but I have yet to have a good go of it.  He got some good pics at the Sunderland Air Show with it (he's only 8!).  Plenty of features for you to try.

My test camera, the XP150 is coming on Monday.  Hopefully the rain will persist, so I can give it a try in the wet.

Good Hunting Steve... Smile

I'm over the moon myself... I've been so lucky to get picked to test the X-S1, it is due to arrive on Monday... thanks Fred & Gladys

I'd really like to get your full report on the HS30, I'm torn between the HS30 & the X-S1... budget being a major concern... which one will deliver the best bang for yer buck as it were!

as I am the happy owner of a S3400, the X-S1 will be a real stretch for me, but I'm looking forward to the real opportunity to get my hands on the camera for 3 weeks, it will give me a real chance to test out what may be the camera of my future.

spending +£500 on a camera is a real comitment for me, few camera shops would give you that sort of gear for 3 weeks just on the off chance, so I'll make the best of this chance, but I'm really keen to know if the HS30 is the more frugally prudent bet.

I look forward to your report

Hey Andy.  Good luck with your tests.  If there is anyone on here that can put it through it's paces, you would certainly be on the list.  Cross fingers the weather will be kind to you.  Steve, have you done a summary on the HS30 yet?  Craig,  well as you are testing the X-S1, it will be interesting to see what we both think of our trials.  I hope that after the reports are in,  you can make a decision to your benefit.  Reading through the reviews so far,  I think that both models,  in the right hands will prove to be just what the doctor ordered.  I guess it all depends on what you want to achieve in the end. Horses for courses and all that jazz.  As for  "lens droop"  I read a tip that if you wipe some V iagra over the barrel, this will be averted.

No need to do a summary, 90% of the stuff in gallery is with the HS30EXR

Why are they asking for it to be tested?  Surely not for advertisement purposes?  Heavens damurgatroid!

Steve

I just bought a battery grip for my 600D too.  Takes two LP8 batteries, the AA battery tray is packed away in the box, I wont be using that.  We'll see how long the grip will keep me going before charging them up again.

Grips are good.

Having a grip and a battery in the main body allows continuous shooting while changing trays over.

The higher voltage of the AAs also allow higher frame rates than normally possible if you need it.

Grip + internal battery normally gives me around 2,200 actuation's or more .

Also as the camera gets older it ensures a supply of usable batteries.

Trouble is , the price of grips has almost doubled in four years and grips tend to be one or two models usable at best .

Also most long lenses will balance better on a tripod or a sling strap with the grip in place and having a usable set of command wheels and shutter button in the portraiture position and better balance are all good reasons to have one so I think you  will find it a good investment Steve .

Well I was talking the the handsom Steve of course Smile

Neither , I've no idea about Canon grips and third party grips on the Nikon's don't give the same watertight seal as I get with the propriety ones as they don't touch the " spout " at all .

£30 is less than a good filter Smile

I wish Smile

Even third party ones for the dark side are £175  Sad

and some of those have been known to blow the bodies up Smile

Hi Ray, well still not sure which Steve you are talking to!!! Lol  So in some cases a third party battery grip does the same as a Big Mac!!!

I guess if you want to retain that  "water-tight"  seal,  best not risk a 3rd party one anyway.  Cheers.

Well I can only see one human face to make an assessment Smile

Seriously Nikon grips are getting into the £350 mark now on some of their grips and OK they are almost bullet proof but you can't even get a Nikon warranty on them in the UK . Madness considering they do lenses at half  that price with warranties . Also never loose the battery charger , they are ridiculous prices .

Have a nice holiday Smile

Hi Ray

I have just taken this shot using my S200EXR of the grip fitted.  It makes the camera look quite chunky like what them professionals have!!!  It has added some weight too,  still has a good solid feel to it.

Thanks Ray,  not going on hols till towards the end of Sept.  A bathroom to finish and then two more on the books.  Things have picked up a bit now.......thank goodness.

Cheers for now. Ta

Jim, I never had the lens droop problem or the white orbs with the X-S1. However, I did query it with Fuji and was told that even if the camera had it, that it would not deter from taking any shots. As for the white orbs, I was told that by installing the latest firmware, that would cure that problem. If in the event of not curing it, then to inform Fuji and they would come to a suitable arragement to get the problem fixed.
