I took this photo yesterday, I had never seen a White Spider before, strange looking thing, It was not very big.  I cannot find out what type it is as there is no mention of any like this in my Collins book of British Wildlife.  Can anyone enlighten me. Thanks Pam.

Great bit of timing, nice one.

Looks like a crab spider to me (Misumena vatia)

As an ambush predator they change their body colour to match the background

It looks a little like a thomisidae crab spider which can actually change colour.  I've seen them look more translucent or green than white usually.  It looks like he/she is enjoying a tasty supper...lol.  Nice against the purple of the flowers.

Thanks for all your kind comments. I have googled the crab spider Dave, and yes it does look like one of those. Amazing how they change colour though. Like a chamellion I guess. I was lucky to see these  while they were white, I would not have noticed it otherwise.

What puzzles me though as these were in a purple bush, I think Ceanothis (can't spell that one).  They are not very nice are they. Thanks again, Pam.

Great shot, Pam... really good detail

I did take a picture of a tiny white spider hanging from the eaves of the house a couple of years ago, but haven`t seen another one since

Pam,

If you look at the underside of a leaf you'll probably find it's white, or at least a very pale green-that's where they usually hide before jumping out on their lunch.
