Fujifilm X10
Statement Regarding the FUJIFILM X10 and X-S1 Digital Camera ‘Blooming’ Effect
The FUJIFILM X10 and X-S1 digital cameras were made available by Fujifilm late last year, and have been generally very well received by customers, who admire the excellent picture quality, manual zoom lens and viewfinder.
However, we did receive some inquiries concerning the so-called ‘white disc’ or ‘blooming’ occurrence, where exceptional highlights in the picture can appear as strongly delineated rounded shapes. This ‘blooming’ effect can occur with all digital cameras which use CMOS sensors, to varying degrees. It can also occur with the X10 and X-S1 when shooting in certain conditions, e.g. cars with front lights shining in dark night scene. The X10 and X-S1 are fitted with a very advanced sensor, which gives excellent picture quality and low noise, but which does give a different ‘blooming’ effect from other cameras.
Fujifilm has a long-standing history of delivering top quality products to the market. In response to our customers’ comments, we have worked hard to find an improvement to reduce the ‘blooming’ effect of the X10 and X-S1. Below are the actions we have undertaken.
- In February, we announced a firmware upgrade for the X10 (version 1.03) which does reduce the white disc occurrence specifically in EXR mode. It works by identifying scenes that are likely to get ‘white disc’ blooming. When the camera recognizes such a scene, it automatically increases the ISO and optimizes DR (dynamic range). As the ISO increases, the white discs are less evident. * New firmware for the X-S1 will be available from March 21, 2012.
- We will also develop a modified sensor, which will more universally resolve the ‘white disc’ blooming effect in all modes. We are working hard to make this new sensor available from late May 2012.
We encourage any customer in the UK with an X10 and X-S1 who has experienced the ‘white disc’ phenomenon to get in touch with the Fujifilm service centre.

I send an email more than 1 week ago to Fuji Digital regarding this but till now no answer. Quite bad as a supplier to act this way. I really liked Fuji and bought since 2003 every year a new Fuji; but next one because of this will be another brand.

"We encourage any customer with an X10 and X-S1 who has experienced the ‘white disc’ phenomenon to call their local authorized Fujifilm service centre."
So the UK number is...??? Replacing the sensor is excellent service as expected from Fuji, but to not give the UK number here is 'cut n paste' slackness.

I appreciate what Fuji are now doing for us X10 owners and to show that my appreciation is genuine I bought a long coveted X100 which with the latest firmware is a beautiful piece of work.
Just read on the internet - so it must be true
- that there are 3000 X10s in China logged in for the repair and only 6 Technicians to do the work!
I hope Fuji UK don't have the same problem. Fuji tel 08445532323

I recently got the firmware update for my X-S1, should I consider the new sensor option and or is it available? I purchased it April 7th 2012. (The latest in a number of "Top End" Fuji bridge cameras since 2003)

Weeks ago I got an email from the German service-center (is there no service center in the Netherland) to confirm my adress details. They would send me a return package via DHL but i'm still waiting for that... The vacation is comming close now, I don't want to send my camera with the risk of not having it back in time for my vacation. Guess I'll have to learn to live with the orbs then...
Recently I sold my Semi-professional Nikon-gear to be able to buy the Xpro1. And I'm lovin' it! I also have around 80-90 analogue camera's like Lomo's, 2-eyed reflex camera's and several view-finders. Yes; I love camera's and that's why I love Fuji!!!<

Is this new sensor available for the XS1 in the UK yet? Waiting to buy the camera but don't want to get the old sensor as it may affect used value in a few years time
